There is something both magical and terrifying about being able to cook an egg on the pavement in front of my apartment. Yeah, it gets that hot here in Phoenix. We’re talking 110 degrees Farenheit on a good day.
In this heat, a refreshing beverage is currency. So when I was approached by White Claw Hard Seltzer for a collaboration, I was looking forward to creating a boozy drink that me and my group of friends could actually enjoy outside (warm beer isn’t appealing).
White Claw Hard Seltzer is 5% ABV and definitely solid on it’s own. It didn’t take long for my girlfriend to get all giddy about it. She’s a fitness fanatic, and a lot more health conscious than I am so she was pumped about it being 110 calories, gluten free, and a break from her regularly scheduled white wine or vodka soda.
I, on the other the hand, looked to create something a little boozier for me and my friends. Initially, I was skeptical when it came to creating a drink with a flavored hard seltzer. I thought it would be overly sweet, but I was pretty surprised with how balanced the White Claw flavors tasted, especially the Black Cherry. Makes sense though seeing as they’re minimally sweetened with natural fruit juice. I definitely found they compliment high ball cocktails really well.
After adding a little gin, some muddled berries, and a little lemon juice this Black Cherry High Ball was perfect for washing down that pavement cooked over easy egg. Just kidding… the egg was eaten long before.
I don’t wish 110 degree heat on anyone, but if you find yourself looking for a refreshing drink in these summer months, give White Claw Hard Seltzer a go. I’ll toot my own horn and say here’s an awesome cocktail to go along with it. Cheers!
- 4-5 Blackberries
- 2 oz Gin
- 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
- 1/2 oz Lemon Juice
- Black Cherry White Claw Hard Seltzer
- In a cocktail shaker, combine the lemon juice, simple syrup, and 4-5 blackberries. Muddle the ingredients to release the juice from the blackberries.
- Pour the gin into the cocktail shaker, and fill the shaker with ice. Shake for 7-10 seconds until chilled. Strain the drink into a collins glass filled with ice (feel free to double strain the drink with a fine mesh strainer if you don’t want any blackberry pieces in your drink).
- Top the drink with the Black Cherry White Claw Hard Seltzer, and garnish with two blackberries. Enjoy!
